Not my garden

My mom graciously offered to watch my daughter tonight so I could get ready to go to Colorado tomorrow. I’m finally getting used to being totally alone again occasionally. It felt really strange there for a while, not at all peaceful, like my arm had been cut off or something. Other than throwing some clothes in a suitcase (AND remembering both of little girl’s swimsuits, where would she be without BOTH of them?!) and doing a few dishes my main getting ready consisted of weeding my community garden plot which looks like total crap. There are fewer weeds now but it really needs fertilizing and mulched since there’s a massive seedbank of weed seeds in my particular plot. Other people’s gardens look much nicer and as a little reminder that procrastinating is bad here are pictures of their much nicer gardens:

My Gardens, Part Three – Community garden plot

Because you can never have too many gardens

Because you can never have too many gardens

Here’s my third garden. It is at the local community garden. It has gorgeous, beautiful soil. Not clay! It is in the flood plain of a river so it is beautiful bottomland.  It has been a long time since I have gardened in soil like this. I’ve planted cucumbers, a couple of varieties of beans, “pink” beans, most importantly. Pink beans are what my daughter calls scarlet runner beans because the immature beans are neon pink. I planted some old summer bulbs that should’ve been planted last summer and TOMATOES. A little room is left, just enough for a raspberry bush.

While planting the tomatoes and weeding this weekend I discovered that there is a lovely patch of sand burs. Luckily they had not gone to seed yet.

Thanks, Dad, for tilling it for me!
